Getting to Know Chopteeth Afrofunk Orchestra
The core of the Chopteeth sound is Afrobeat—a big-band funk invented by Fela Kuti in 1970’s Nigeria. Their music can be best described as a spicy stew of modern jazz and American funk inspired by James Brown blended with Yoruba rhythms, besides serving up lyrics in a total of seven different languages.Funk is a music genre that originated in the mid-1960s when African American musicians created a new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and R&B. It typically consists of a complex groove with rhythm instruments playing interlocking grooves.
