An Autumn Afternoon at a Winery
We will visit two wineries in Loudoun County which is known for its scenic views with rolling hills of farms and vineyards and the Blue Ridge Mountains along the horizon. Our first stop will be Doukénie which is nestled in the foothills of the Blue ridge mountains which has a wine list that includes Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese.
Autumn picnic |
The winery offers some light snacks and also has live music on Saturday afternoons.
Our second winery Hillsborough Vineyards is a short distance drive from Doukénie. It has a scenic patio, that sits in the middle of the grapevines and the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains.
The vines at Hillsborough are split into three fields. The West field is planted with Fer Servadou, a red French grape. The upper East field is planted with both Petit Verdot and Tannat. The lower East field is planted with Petit Menseng, a white French varietal. The North field is home to Cabernet Sauvignon.
