Wine Tasting Details
Our core member Matt will be hosting this wine tasting event at his home in Alexandria, where we will be tasting wines from the Southern Hemisphere, and talking about wine and our previous travels to any of these countries, south of the Equator.With its diverse variety of grapes, terroir and micro-climates, the wines produced south of the Equator are unparalleled, delicious and affordable.
During the event, we will be tasting wines from different regions across the Southern Hemisphere while comparing the different flavors and styles, and also talking about the wine regions and wine-making styles in these countries.

This is member participation event, as each participant brings a bottle and some food to share based on the guidelines provided by our host and organizer.
Participation Guidelines
- Each participant must bring a wine bottle red or white from a country in the Southern Hemisphere of their choice.
- Bring some cheese or charcuterie or food or dessert to share.
- Please comment on your food and wine pairing when you RSVP or within 3 days of your RSVP so other participants can coordinate on their wine and food pairing and we have have some good diversity in our wine selection.
- Those on the wait-list will be given precedence if you have commented on your wine and food pairing, while on the wait-list, as it indicates your interest to participate in this event.
- The host address will be sent to the confirmed participants a few days before the event.

Argentina
Argentina is the largest wine producer in South America, best known for its Malbec and Torrontés.
Australia
Australia produces some easy-drinking, everyday wines, best known for Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
Chile
With ideal wine growing conditions influenced by the cool breezes from Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountains, Chile produces some great wines, and is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Bordeaux Blends.
New Zealand
New Zealand comprised of the North and South Islands in the South Pacific Ocean and a modern wine-making approach, is best known for its Sauvignon Blanc, with other varietals being Pinot Noir and Bordeaux-style blends of mainly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
South Africa
Influenced by the cool ocean winds from the south and granite mountains, South Africa is best known for its Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Shiraz/Syrah and Cabernet and Merlot Blends.
Brazil
Much of Brazil is hot and humid, but the micro-climates in the south like in Serra Gaucha have made it one of the New World sparkling wine regions.
Uruguay
Vineyards particularly near the coastline where the warm, flat agricultural plains are cooled by daily sea breezes produces some interesting wines like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Viognier but Tannat is the undisputed king of Uruguayan wines.
